“And now we welcome the New Year. Full of things that have never been.” – Rainer Maria Rilke.
A new year brings new hope. We see the empty pages of an unwritten story. We recognize and become energized by its latent potential. Literally anything could happen. The possibilities are endless.
Some people like to begin their New Year’s story by carefully planning everything, setting goals and making New Year’s resolutions. Others like to just dive right in and see where the story takes them. Perhaps a good balance between the two is the best option.
If you are too rigid in your planning and the setting of goals you could end up being thrown of course. This will result in a loss of motivation when faced with unforeseen disappointments. On the other hand, a complete lack of planning could rob you of living to your fullest potential. After all, failing to plan, is planning to fail. Make plans, set goals but don’t be governed by them, instead be flexible and alter your plans and goals when necessary. Not in a way that will undermine or compromise your success but rather in a way that will actually help to benefit, shape, enhance and ultimately increase your success.
I fully agree with the saying, “Life is like a book. Everyday is a new page and every month is a new chapter. Every year is a new series.” With that in mind I believe it is necessary to very definitely close the book of the previous year. Hold on to all the wonderful memories, the lessons learnt and wisdom gained. But let go of all hurt, broken dreams, unfulfilled goals, mistakes and disappointments. It is only by doing this that you will truly experience new found creativity, inspiration, motivation and determination.
“Ring out the false, ring in the true.” – Alfred Lord Tennyson
Give flight to your dreams for this new year, let them soar, but don’t sit idly by, waiting for things to happen and for opportunities to fall into your lap. Pick up that pen, write your story, create your own opportunities and make your dreams come true.
“Your success and happiness lies within you. Resolve to stay happy, and joyous and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.” – Helen Keller
I wish you all a happy New Year and a blessed year ahead.
